SVVP stands for Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP). The program was put together to allow third-party hypervisors to host and virtualize Microsoft licensed products. It also means that any customer will be supported by Microsoft when running software such as Exchange, SQL, or SharePoint products on a validated hypervisor.
News just in from Mike D at VMware… VMware now leads the “most validated SVVP hypervisor” race with 8 new configs that have just been approved:
- (4) ESX 3.5 update 2 configurations (up to 64GB memory)
- (4) ESX 3.5 update 3 configurations (64GB, should appear on site before mid-month)
- ESXi configurations for u2 and u3 are in progress as well, 64GB…
Also, a lot of customers have mentioned to me that the listing only includes Windows 2008 and they are still on Windows 2003… Well, they’ve officially grandfathered-in Windows 2000 and Windows 2003:
Products that have passed the SVVP requirements for Windows Server 2008 are considered supported on Windows 2000 Server SP4 and Windows Server 2003 SP2 and later.
